Geoffrey Riley, host of Jefferson Public Radio’s Jefferson Exchange, with talk with Jim Reiland, contributing author of the California Straw Building Association’s new book, Straw Bale Building Details: An Illustrated Guide for Design and Construction. A twelve-year volunteer effort by CASBA members, this book is a comprehensive guide to designing and building with this locally abundant, annually renewable, non-toxic, carbon sequestering building material. Building with straw bales has been in the Oregon Building Code since 2001, and this book shows the many effective ways to construct plastered straw bale wall assemblies that create energy efficient, long lasting, beautiful buildings.
